On Remembrance Sunday, we did something new. Led by our choir, Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Cubs, Rainbows, Beavers and others, we all went out with solemn informality at the end of our Remembrance Service and laid poppies at the 18 war graves in our churchyard (there are photos of the event here). These have all been researched and cleaned by the Year 11 pupils at Kings Norton Boys’ School who also shared our Remembrance ceremony on 11th November at the Lych Gate.
Like many, I was deeply moved by the care of our young people for those who have died in war and by their serious thanksgiving for the freedom and peace which those sacrifices have given us. I was also deeply moved that our churchyard was filled with people of all ages, informally sharing together in a common task of love.
We all have our own deep memories. They are within us all the time, but on Remembrance Sunday they were held by us all, together in God’s grace....
