Sunday Services

Kings Norton is an Anglican parish. The Church of England enjoys a rich variety of styles of worship, many of which are in regular use here. On an average Sunday, we offer a choice of five different services in three locations.

Easter Sunday morning at St Nicolas'

St Nicolas'

At St Nicolas', the parish church, early risers are able to enjoy a 9 o'clock "said" Holy Communion (i.e. without music). It is a quiet, reflective service which uses the traditional language of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The main Sunday service starts at 10.30 am and lasts about an hour and a half. It is accompanied by the church choir. Three times a month, it takes the form of Holy Communion in contemporary language. Once a month, there is a Parade service, when the congregation is joined by the members of our young people's uniformed organisations and their leaders.

If there is a 5th Sunday in the month, the 10.30 service is often a Eucharist.

Immanuel

If you like a more informal style of worship, you may prefer Immanuel Church. Here, about 50 people gather each Sunday at Saint Nicolas' Place for a service led sometimes by one of the clergy, sometimes by a member of the congregation.

The singing is accompanied by a worship band and draws on a broad range of songs in a variety of styles. As at the parish church, there are separate activities for children of primary school age during the service.

Imaginative use is made of information technology and other audio and visual aids. Children are, of course, encouraged to be actively involved and, once or twice a month, an All-Age Service places particular emphasis on their gifts, needs and insights. Immanuel Church, like all our churches, offers a friendly atmosphere and visitors are warmly welcomed.
